Even if you're not a great fan of modern art, the building alone is well worth a visit. Completed six months after the architect's death in 1959, the building is New York's youngest officially designated landmark. Because there is so much to see and do at the Guggenheim Museum, you should allow yourself at least two hours. To get the most from your visit, it is well worth taking a tour or gallery talk: information on these can be obtained from the information desk on the main floor. There is a second, New York Guggenheim Museum, in SoHo, which was opened in 1992. It's smaller and more intimate than its 5th avenue 'sister', and features Andy Warhol's 'The Last Supper' as an ongoing installation on the 2nd floor. With collections also in Bilbao, Berlin and Venice, Italy (The Peggy Guggenheim Collection), the Guggenheim Museum is truly international. Essential Data Solomon R Guggenheim

The
Solomon R Guggenheim Museum is one of the architectural wonders of the
modern world. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, its shell-like shape dominates
the junction of 5th Avenue and 89th Street. 
The
museum houses one of the greatest collections of 19th and 20th century
art, featuring one of the world's most significant collections of Kandinsky
and masterpieces by Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani and Miro among many
others... It also houses a variety of special exhibitions and plays
host to a variety of lectures, concerts and other performance events.
