Largely built between 1931 and 1940, the complex boasts some of the world's greatest examples of Art Deco art and architecture. A second phase of building between 1957 and 1973 to the west of the center gave a total of 19 buildings in the block between West 51st Street and West 48th Street, flanked by 5th Avenue and Broadway. The General Electric Building, completed during the first phase of the center's construction, towers over the heart of the complex. On its 65th floor, is the legendary Art Deco Rainbow Room Restaurant, where visitors can dine and dance the night away in grand 1930s splendour.
Its Christmas Spectacular shows are legendary and feature the world's most famous chorus line, The Rockettes. Since 1932, two musical items The Living Nativity and Parade of the Wooden Soldiers have been included in every Christmas Spectacular, guaranteeing them a place in American history. The Ice Rink: Another great New York landmark, this is situated under the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Plaza and is open to all during the winter months with skates for hire.

The
Rockefeller Center in the middle of the Theater District has been
described as "the heart of New York". It was the world's first integrated
'one stop' complex comprising shops, offices, theaters and restaurants
and is one of the great 'essential' New York sights.
Radio
City Music Hall: The "Showplace of the Nation" was opened in 1932
by impresario S.L. "Roxy" Rothafel. It was the first building of the
Rockefeller Center. At the time, Radio City Music Hall was the largest
indoor auditorium in the world with a seating capacity of almost 6,000.
